US Firefighters cheered as they arrive at Sydney International Airport

US firefighters were welcomed as hero's to Sydney. 

“Coming through, all gathered gave a spontaneous & lengthy round of applause, reflecting the gratitude & admiration we all have for their generosity,” tweeted Shane Fitzsimmons, the commissioner of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

American firefighters made a courageous journey to Australia with one goal, helping put an end to these devastating fires. 

His agency warned Friday that forecasted wind gusts could “cause erratic fire behavior over many fire grounds.” As of 6 p.m. local time, more than 3,300 firefighters were battling 137 blazes across Australia, 66 of which have not been contained, they added.

'Last week, an ecologist at the University of Sydney estimated that nearly half a billion animals had been wiped out since Australia's devastating wildfires started spreading in September. Now, he says that number has soared to over 800 million in New South Wales and over 1 billion nationally." States Sophie Lewis. This is a tragedy and the death toll of animals are now at 1,000,000,000.
